Monthly Conversation Group Meeting  "Celler Runde" :

Picture
The "Celler Runde" monthly German conversation group will meet on Saturday 8/7/2010, at 10AM at the home of Barbara Taron, 6562 South 218th East Ave., in Broken Arrow. The "Celler Runde" is an informal conversation group, and a meeting point for those who like to talk about German topics. The discussions can be about someone's last or future trip to Germany, a German movie, a book, or an event. We also discuss German food and recipes as well as restaurants. In short, we talk about anything of interest to the group. There is no specific topic or speaker, we are just a small group of people with a common interest in speaking German to either maintain our language fluency, or to improve our German language skills.
(Guests are always welcome to join the group and participate in the discussions)

August Movie Night

We are trying to schedule a movie night for August 17th. We are thinking about showing "Good Bye Lenin" or "Wings of Desire". Please send an E-mail to taronger@windstream.net to let us know which of the two you would prefer to see. You can also let us know if you have another movie you would like to recommend. Refreshments will be available.
.

Arrival of Celle officials and DAG members

Celle officials and DAG members are currently scheduled to arrive on 9/20 - More information will be posted as soon as Celle advises us of the flight numbers. E-mail taronger@windstream.net if you would like to to join the TCP airport welcoming committee.

TGA's Savoring Sister Cities

TGA would like to conduct a silent auction during the Savoring Sister Cities event. This auction will help TGA raise funds for its many worthwhile activities. Each of the Sister Cities has been asked to provide goods or services which can be added to the list of items for the silent auction.

We are happy to report that TCP members Al and Lois Voeller have been able to obtain the donation of a round of golf for four people at the Battle Creek Golf course. We thank the Voellers and the Battle Creek management team for this important contribution. Please make sure to thank the people at the Battle Creek golf course if you visit it in the near future.

Please contact Barbara Taron at 355-2370 if you can add something to the TCP"s contribution list, or if you know someone who might be able to do so. Amongst other things, we are currently looking for goods and "goodies" which can fit in a gift basket which will then be contributed to the silent auction.

Tulsa Anniversary Celebrations

We have been advised that the Tulsa 10-year Anniversary celebration is scheduled to take place at TGA's annual Savoring Sister Cities event. This meeting has been rescheduled from its regular April date to September 21st, 2010 to allow for an anniversary celebration for three of Tulsa's sister cities. Mayor Dewey Bartlett has invited Celle's Lord Mayor, the Honorable Mr. Mende,  to come to Tulsa to participate in the celebrations. On 1/26/10, the Tulsa-Celle-partnership invited the DAG and its members to join us in Tulsa to celebrate our 10 years of friendship. Please let us know if you think of any activities which would help making this event a memorable one. Preliminary plans include the official TGA ceremony at the Sister Cities event (Celle officials and other Celle guests will be invited), and a possible party at the home of a TGA member. The Tulsa-Celle-Partnership has scheduled a celebration party on 9/22 for its members and their Celle guests, and the Willis family has offered to host an outing on their Grand Lake property.

We thank Barbara Conrad for volunteering to chair the Tulsa-Celle-Partnership meal preparations, and meal serving for the Savoring Sister Cities celebration. Please contact Barbara Conrad or Barbara Taron if you can help with this event.

We thank Ed Lenfesty for volunteering to chair the Tulsa-Celle-Partnership preparations for our own evening of celebration on 9/22. We anticipate serving a meal, and having entertainment which will require audience participation. Much work will be needed to make this a successful event and Ed will need help in coordinating the several activities which are being planned. Please contact Ed Lenfesty or Barbara Taron if you can help.

Other exchanges

Celle to Tulsa

Mirjam Brömmelhörster, who is studying Elementary Education in Germany, is scheduled to arrive in Tulsa in mid August for a two months stay. Mirjam is 21 years old, and her goal is to intern for five weeks at a Tulsa school. The Holland Hall school was contacted by Marja Willis and it has accepted Mirjam for a five weeks internship. Joe Rohr has also been in touch with the McKinley school about a possible internship for Mirjam. The McKinley school has also offered to host Mirjam, and we are hopeful that she will be able to spend sometime at that school before returning to Germany. We want to thank the Willis family for their wonderful offer to host Mirjam during her stay in Tulsa.
