The Tulsa-Celle-Partnership
The Partnership was created to promote a Sister City relationship between Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA and the city of Celle in Lower Saxony, Germany. A group of Tulsa representatives traveled to Celle in June 2000 to sign the Partnership documents, and a group of Celle representatives came to Tulsa in November 2000 to sign the agreement in Tulsa.
Since then, there have been many exchanges between the two cities. Students and business interns have been welcomed by both cities, and several groups have taken advantage of our Partnership to make new friends on both sides of the Atlantic. Pastors from Celle have visited Tulsa around Christmas time to hold non-denominational Christmas services. The Partnership has also sponsored an exhibit of American Indian art which was displayed in the Celle castle. Other exchanges have included horn players, cooks, fire department personnel, rowers who participated in races in Tulsa and in Celle, and more recently the Junge Chor which endeared itself to Oklahomans by singing renditions of the song "Oklahoma" to then Mayor Kathy Taylor, and to a session of the Oklahoma legislature in Oklahoma City.
